We were all born with hair, and some more than others. Either way, sometimes it can be embarrassing, annoying, frustrating, or just simply excess hair we'd rather be without. Electrolysis is good for any age, any skin type, and every hair color. Whether you have course dark hairs, kinky curly hairs, prickly white hairs, or fine blond fuzz, I can eliminate it completely, or just thin it out... it's all up to you.

How It Works

As I mentioned above, we all have hair. But some people have an excess hair growth due to heredity, hormones, glandular changes, medicine, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and even stress.

Every hair follicle goes through many growth cycles. We can only treat the hairs that are visible above the skin at each appointment. Electrolysis is the removal of unwanted facial and/or body hair by use of a tiny probe that is inserted into the opening of each individual hair follicle, which then produces a heat and chemical reaction that destroys the hair's root. On coarse hairs, it involves a series of treatments over a period of time to destroy the full growth cycle.

There are three modalities (methods) of electrolysis:

Thermolysis – High Frequency –the hair root (papilla) is destroyed by heat production.
Galvanic – Direct Current – the hair roots are destroyed by chemical action.
Blend – combination of the above two modalities where the hair root is destroyed by both heat and chemical action at the same time.

Does It Hurt

Every individual has their own pain tolerance level. Most people don't feel the insertion of the probe into the hair follicle at all, but they might feel the heat from the current. The best way I can describe it is a fast prick or mild sting only lasting a fraction of a second. During certain cycles of the female month, there are times when the body as a whole is more sensitive than other times. There are also certain areas of the body that are extremely sensitive to any kind of touch. For those areas and during those times, I will advise you in advance to use some over-the-counter topical numbing cream to help alleviate any extra sensitivity. As a whole though, electrolysis is very tolerable.

How Long Does It Take

The time you have to spend on each treatment, and the length of the whole treatment plan can vary greatly depending on a number of factors:

Right leg, the results 5 months after only 1 treatment!!

Size of area to be treated
Hair growth cycle
Density and texture of the hair
Previous use of temporary hair removal methods
Certain medications
Hormone function
Your tolerance and stress level
How often you come in for treatments

In any case, you should see some improvements within a few weeks after the initial treatment as I need to treat each growth cycle of every individual hair. The photo I've included is a client's leg that I treated only one time. I purposely waited 5 months to treat it again just so you could see the difference and results that Electrolysis makes! The 5 month delay allowed all the growth cycles to take place, showing you that after every treatment less and less hair grows back, and the hair that does come back, comes back lighter and lighter until it’s gone permanently!! Keeping in mind that everyone’s hair and skin is different, this picture is a great example of one client, and very encouraging for everyone to see! With regular treatments, I can remove the unwanted hair faster. It all depends on you!

Can you treat PCOS or Hirsutism?

Yes! Most definitely! PCOS is a common female endocrine disorder affecting as many as 5 million women in the U.S. It is a hormonal imbalance and a health issue that can affect a women's appearance, menstrual cycle, hormones and heavy growth of hair. Electrolysis is the only form of hair removal approved by the FDA as a permanent way of removing hair. So for the thousands of women who deal with PCOS or Hirsutism, electrolysis is a great option to permanently get rid of the excess unwanted hair that often grows on the face, neck, chest, and back.

What if I'm pregnant?

It is completely safe to have electrolysis done during pregnancy. Although it is advised not to treat the breast or belly areas during the 3rd trimester, due to tenderness and hormone stimulation.

Can you treat hairy moles?

In most cases yes. Generally speaking, electrolysis on mole hair is safe and simple. However, I do require a doctor's approval before I begin any electrolysis treatments on mole hairs to be certain that the mole is not cancerous.
